Dr. David C. Robinson

David has considerable experience with and exposure to North Carolina's Amtrak train service as (1) a frequent passenger, (2) a promoter of railroad crossing safety to schools with the NCDOT Rail Division and NC Operation Lifesaver, (3) the first director of the NCDOT Public Transportation Division, (4) an arranger of group day trips for seniors, students. and special interest groups to and from NC station cities, and (5) as a consultants to regional travel and tourism groups.

He has visited every single North Carolina train station and has walked the downtown area of each city, looking for restaurants, shops, attractions, and services that might be of interest (or critical) to visiting train passengers, and within easy walking distance of the station.

He is Vice President, North Carolina, of the Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains (CAPT), and currently is one of two North Carolina representatives on the State Council of Representatives of the national Rail Passengers Association.

He has developed many ideas to share with local tourism promoters about attracting more visitors by train, how local businesses and attractions can benefit, and give residents ideas of opportunities for train travel both in and out of state, including nationwide.

For the Halifax County Convention & Visitors Bureau, he prepared supporting material for a request to the NC Department of Transportation to add Weldon as a station stop on the Carolinian and Palmetto trains to better serve northeastern North Carolina. The project, which includes new railroad tracks and bridge reconstruction is now in the State Transportation Improvement Program as P-5741 for preliminary engineering as P-5741.

He is willing to provide assistance to cities to stimulate passenger growth at their train stations. Please use the contact form to make an inquiry.
