TO YOUR COMMUNITY

Train Awareness

Trains Matter believes that many residents and local officials do not appreciate the importance of the railroad in their communities. Whether you have passenger trains stopping or just passing through in addition to freight trains, the economic benefits can be significant. Pedestrian and vehicular safety is also a critical issue, and while safety measures may be in place, a lack of knowledge means that they are often unintentionally ignored, with dire consequences for all involved.

Public Education

Passenger trains do not run just for the benefit of railfans; they run to provide mobility to all residents, to reach work and pleasure destinations in-state and out-of-state, and for non-residents to visit your community for business and pleasure. Trains Matter's purpose is to both educate the public about passenger services, as well as the role that freight trains play in transporting essential products to and from local businesses. Every station city needs a strategic plan to maximize the use of such an asset.

Local Business Promotion

Local businesses and attractions can benefit financially from same-day and overnight visitors arriving in your community by passenger train. Passenger train stations are nearly always located in the downtown area, within easy walking distance of restaurants, specialty shops, museums, and other services. Yet quite often little attention is paid to attracting train passengers. Making residents more aware of trips that can be made by train is also important, Trains Matter can work with local businesses to promote themselves to train passengers.
